Corruption

Most people understand that there is a lot of corruption in politics. Even if we don’t see it everyday, the subtleties are there. I think most people are so jaded by this time that they are just sort of accept it. If a politician gets caught accepting bribes, it’s not even that big a deal any more.

In most cases, it isn’t even difficult to see where the corruption lies. We, the people are so immune to the bizzaro world antics of our “leaders” that we don’t even put up a fuss.

Take for example this week’s ruling by US Congress that Pizza “still” counts as a vegetable. It counts as a vegetable because it has 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. Considering that the USDA web site itself claims that tomato paste is largely just water, glucose (sugar), fructose (sugar) and sucrose (sugar), it makes it difficult to see how congress classifies this as a vegetable.

Until you actually read the article. A fact that nobody even tries to hide.

“It’s an important victory,” Corey Henry, spokesman for the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI), told Reuters.

“It’s an important victory” that kids are forced to eat frozen crap food devoid of nutrients and filled with potentially harmful chemicals. What kind of sick individual would say this? Right, not an individual..the American Frozen Food Institute or AFFI. Who are the AFFI?

A quick look at their web site reveals such headings as: “AFFI lauds congress for balanced approach on school meals” and “AFFI hails senate move blocking school starchy vegetable limits”, “Benefits of Frozen Food”, “AFFI promotes increased consumption of frozen foods”.  You really can’t make this shit up. If you want to know why Congress does something stupid?  Cui bono?  Who benefits?  Those that benefit are the criminals.

If you want the 99% movement to work, boycott all members of the AFFI.  Do not let your kids participate in the school lunch programs that force this shit down their throats.  Otherwise when your kids start developing cancer and diabetes in their 20′s, it will only be yourself to blame.

This rant was inspired by Jack Abramoff.  The former lobbyist that did jail time for getting caught.  Mr. Abramoff did an Op-Ed piece on Bloomberg yesterday where he called Congressional staff members the “Willing Vassals of K street firms”.  K Street is in Washington, DC and home to many lobbyists and advocacy groups.  His article goes on to describe how easy it is to bribe politicians.  Something we all already knew spelled out by a former insider.  And if you are still not convinced, just take a look at the list of federal political scandals in the United States and remember, these are only the people that got caught!
